A gay high school student in Flagler Palm Coast High School, Florida is bringing a suit against the school for allowing a teach to harass him.
From Queerty.com:
Herbert said classmates have bullied him before, but now it's gotten worse. One of his teachers has singled him out. "He stood in front of the class and said 'you can't put Mountain Dew or Pepsi in the same fridge or they'll turn gay'. He [also] came over to me and I was like 'hi.' He said hi, like he was imitating me or mocking me," Herbert said.
Not allowed to put drinks in the fridge, because they might "catch the gay"? Really?
(From Advocate.com):
Luke Herbert is a 15-year-old freshmen at Flagler Palm Coast. While this story is just starting to hit the blogs, not much is known (I suspect this will change by tomorrow morning). Herbert claims he and his mother complained several times to school officials about the teacher, but no one took the complaints seriously.
Ultimately the teacher has apologized, and the school has promised to move him to another class, but that hasn't happened yet. School officials are investigaing the situation, but have no further comment.
I suspect that there is going to be a LOT of focus on Flager Palm Coast High in the next few days. Let the sun disinfect some more bigotry I say. More updates as the news wire update their links.
