As I surfed the TV news and news cable channels today, no one was talking about Madison and everyone was talking about Republicans and spending cuts; the focus was not on jobs or worker rights, but on what Republicans were doing. The pundits were talking to Republican, or right leaning guests, and there wasn't a democrat in sight. How can we get them involved to cover something that is so important by interviewing Democrats as well as Republicans?
I am very concerned at the one way street MSM has been on for some time now, and with what is happening in Wisconsin being virtually ignored, it will lead many people to assume that nothing much is going on. While the events in Libya concern me, a 70,000 people protest in Wisconsin also is worth an hour's attention on CNN. When will MSM have the courage to cover this in detail, with extensive interviews with the teachers, police, firefighters as well as interviews on the other side. This needs to be covered on ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN as well as MSNBC (only Rachel Maddow and Ed Shultz are covering it.)
I worry that as MSM appears to be more in the pocket of conservatives, we as a country are becoming less educated and informed about what is really going on and therefore will be accepting a lower standard of living, accepting an unequal distribution of wealth, will be accepting the bullpucky that we are, somehow, responsible for our low wages, lack of health care, etc.
How can we fight back if a rally of 70,000 people in Madison, and mulltiple rallies everywhere in this country, doesn't get any mention on national media? There are many uninformed people who don't follow blogs, facebook or other social media and these people need to be reached. How can we get through to them?
This is my first diary so forgive me for my poor writing. I feel so frustrated.
