I just finished an IM chat with a friend over the proposed change in the Missouri Child Labor Law. You know, the one that "repeals" it?
I read it. It does nothing of the kind. what it does, is replace several sections of the law.
Does it allow children to work at or overnight it at hotels or motels? no. See, and that what is pissing me off.

It refers specifically to children in the entertainment field and in hazardous occupations.
The first section, dealing with children ages 14 - 16 in entertainment, it adheres to SAG/AFTRA guidelines and Federal Law regarding how many hours a kid can work. The child must have a permit from the director and consent from the parent/guardian/custodian and they must be present on set. They must have a child welfare representative and, the parent/guardian/custodian must be informed, and they must give the child a 12-hour break. The child is still required to attend school
The second section covers High risk professions, and the prohibition of employing children in such professions or vicinity. It's quite explicit about that. if the kid is under 16, they can't operate machinery, save for garden/lawn equipment and then only by permission of the child's parent. If they are under 14, they can't work. at all.
My point is, if we scare monger, we are no better than the Tea Party
