The truth is that I don't know, but a little bird whispered something into financial analyst Barry Ritholtz's ear saying that it was in the pipeline?
You see, as a result of some accidentally unsealed court records, the New York Times discovered that Ailes had been caught on tape advising Judith Regan to lie to federal investigators about her affair with Bernie Kerik at ground zero. (No really, she and Bernie did the nasty in an apartment overlooking the remains of the WTC that was rented for the use of first responders).
This was allegedly to boost the Presidential campaign of Rudy "A noun, a verb, and 911" Giuliani.
In any case, Ritholtz has learned that Ailes has canceled a speaking engagement with the excuse that he, "cannot appear for legal reasons."
I [Ritholtz] asked "What, precisely, does that mean?"
The response: "Roger Ailes will be indicted — probably this week, maybe even Monday."
Now let's offer the standard disclaimers: Innocent until proven guilty, and any report of an indictment is as nebulous as the invocations of "Fitzmas" in the Plame leak investigation, but if he did this, and if he was caught on tape, it would get interesting, particularly since Rupert Murdoch might be inclined to use Ailes' current position as a landing pad another episode of
Adventures in Nepotism.
