This is a step-by-step illustrated guide to getting an account on Daily Kos and joining the Butte County kossacks of CA-02 Group.  Just follow the illustrations and you're on your way!

Your first step is to Create An Account at Daily Kos.

Now, don't worry.  I know it's a big and complicated site, but remember:

You can remain as anonymous as you like

You can stay with the local group before branching out to the rest of the site.

Go to the home page at Daily Kos (<---- click that button just to your left) and look at the far upper right-hand corner of the screen.  If you are brand new, click the Sign Up button. You do not have to use your real name or make any of your private information public.

If you already have an account, click Log In. (If you're already logged in just move to the next step!)

Once you are logged in, look to the upper left hand corner of the screen.  You'll see your user name and if you have any messages. If you are brand new it will say No New Messages.  Click on that messages link and send a message to smileycreek asking to be added to the Butte County kossacks group.  When I have replied, you will see 1 New Message next to your name. Click on that for your invitation to join the group.

When you click on your first message, this is what your invitation will look like.  Just click the line saying Accept This Invitation and you're now a member of the group blog.

How to Find the Group

To do this you will want to go to My Page.  It's right there on the front page of Daily Kos when you're logged in.

Click on My Groups at the top, OR go straight to Butte County kossacks on the right hand side.

You're now at the Home page for our blog!  For future reference you can Bookmark this page, or add it to My Favorites, and come directly here in the future.

You can now scroll down the page to see all the diaries listed in this blog.  Some are written by members of the group, and some diaries have been republished here because I thought they might be of local interest to the group.

You can now open any diary and add your own comments to the conversation.

Click the little heart on the right hand side so that you are now "following" the group.  I'll explain all about this later, but for now just click on it!

If you like a diary, here's how to show your appreciation and let the author know you read and liked it:

Click the star next to the diary title.  This means you Recommend this diary to other readers.

When you are reading comments, click the little Recommend box next to the comment to show you read the comment.

Feel free to click the star next to the title of this diary, and come on into the comments so I know you've arrived!

Let me know if you'd like to write a diary of your own about local politics.  I'm here to help!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?
