Oops, sorry, that was a typo. The title should have been "Voter Fraud Indictment OF Republican Indiana Secretary of State." Yup, you read that right. The man in charge of upholding voter election laws was indicted for voter fraud.
I guess there really is voter fraud, eh?
Of course, Indiana's draconian Voter ID law would never have caught it, because his ID showed the false address.
Take the trip across the bar for more.
Charlie White, the recently elected Secretary of State, was indicted for:
* Voter Fraud (3 counts)
* Perjury (2 counts)
* Theft (1 count)
Here's the story. Ol' Charlie lived in Fishers, Indiana, with his wife. He was on the Fishers town council, as the councilman for that district. Then, he and his wife split up. And he moved out. He moved into an apartment in the same district and changed his voter registration to that apartment.
Then he bought a condo.
Outside the district.
So Ol' Charlie changed his voter registration again.
To the ex-wife's house.
And what is Charlie's explanation? He was busy. Yup. Busy. The former Republican County Chair, the new Secretary of State, was so "busy" that when he actually went to change his voter registration (remember, it's not like he forgot to do it, he did a false affirmative act), he used his ex-wife's house.
What does Ol' Charlie have to say about this?
But more importantly, I will continue to do the job I was elected to do and carry on serving the needs of Hoosier taxpayers through the Secretary of State’s office. I am humbled by the outpouring of support. The important work on behalf of Hoosiers will not be derailed by this process.
The important business, like enforcing election laws.
How about (Y)our Man Mitch, the favorite economy wonk of the moneyed Republican old school? What did our Governor have to say about this?
This news is sad and regrettable, but the only course of honor is for Mr. White to step down from his duties, at least during the duration of these proceedings until a verdict is reached.
Take a break, Charlie, until this little thing blows over.
By the way, the Democrat Charlie beat for the SoS position was Vop Osili. This is Vop:
Do you think (Y)our Man Mitch would have just suggested a little time off if Vop was facing the same charges? Indeed, given Indiana's draconian, actually make that KKKluxian, voter ID laws, what are the chances Vop even got to vote?
