Dennis Kucinich came to town February 21 in support of the labor protest in Olympia, Washington. He spoke at the Olympia Film Society on the True Cost of War.
Dennis spoke brilliantly without notes on how to heal our nation from the wounds of 911, the damage from our participation in unjust wars of vengeance based on deliberate lies, the need to prosecute our war crimes to get to resolution, and the threat to democracy from unending war. Good stuff that I captured on video.
But first I need to learn how to edit and upload a video to you tube, and then embed it in a diary- so here is a short test clip from the Q and A session.
Dennis was asked to comment on government secrecy. Here is his answer.
Dennis raises interesting questions. What is a private doing with government-shaking classified information? Why does breaking the law only seem to be a big problem when it is done by privates and not presidents? How is the pledge to secrecy being used to muzzle Congress when it supposed to be overseeing the military?
I get goosebumps to see how video from my camera is now on you tube and posted in a diary. The camera is shaky and the clip is far from professional, but it sure feels good to be learning new skills. The more we learn how to report events over the internet, the more we become the eyes and ears of a social movement for real change. Let's gain those citizen journalist skills so the corporate media is not the only voice that gets heard across America.
Bottom Line: First hand video coverage and internet publication of a significant issue is possible with a cheap video camera and a home computer even for those of us who are intimidated by geekeese.
Citizen journalists don't need to be afraid of the technology.
It's all just point and click.
