I was born in Michigan, so this next story, hits kind of close to Home for me ...
Maddow: Michigan's governor wants the power to auction off its towns to corporations
by Gaius Publius, americablog.com -- March 09, 2011
The Teabag-enabled plan in Michigan: Use the budget to starve cities and towns, then put in an "emergency town manager" who could
1) kill any contract the town entered into
AND 2) dismiss elected officials
AND (3) "disincorporate" the town itself.
Oh, and the 'emergency manager' can be a corporation.
They're kidding right!?
The Michigan Governor wants to be able to "Dis-incorporate" entire Towns and Cities
-- and then turn around and "Re-incorporate" them with actual Corporations ... WHO are his appointed lackeys !?
To DO what exactly? Sell the town off in pieces -- for pennies on the dollar?
Incredible! There's no place like Home -- Warehouse America ... there's no place like ...
Michigan Republicans seek power to dis-incorporate whole cities, dismiss elected officials
By Stephen C. Webster, rawstory.com -- March 09, 2011
In a new bill being pushed by Governor Rick Snyder (R), the governor, or a company hired by the governor, would have the power to declare municipal entities insolvent.
Amid the fiscal emergency, the governor or the governor’s agent would then be empowered to appoint an emergency manager to oversee all financial matters.
Under language in the bill, that individual would be able to cancel any and all contracts -- including collective bargaining rights for unions -- and outright dis-incorporate whole cities, dismissing lawfully elected officials in the process.
Only in America, could the "small town" fabric, the hallmark of our free-society,
be deemed insolvent, dissolved, and then taken over by the Local State Executive, as if he were over seeing an Estate Sale Auction -- that he's reclaimed by his "Imminent Domain", or something.
Michigan elected Rick Snyder as Governor -- NOT King!
Funny I don't remember him highlighting his "Corporate Takeover" experience, when he bragged about his CEO years at Gateway Computers -- back on the Campaign Trail. (Back when I was promoting the progressive, Virg Bernero, his opponent.)
There seems to be a lot of that going around lately -- Tea Party Governors peeling off their Worker-friendly Masks, once they fool the people, and somehow get elected.
Does Michigan have a recall provision? Wisconsin may have some good company soon.
Can a Corporation -- BE a "Place of Birth" ?
This displaced Michigander wonders?
