In a Neoliberal shaped world, $=political power.
You can strike, but you wont get coverage from centralized Wall Street Owned MSM.
You can vote, but politicians have split loyalty between donors and voters. If they follow the money they will be set for life.
What can you do? $ Activism. If we can redirect the flow of money, we redirect the flow of power.
“One of Gandhi’s most important campaigns was to persuade Indians to wear only traditional Indian homespun garments, boycotting English imports.”
If we could target one industry. What would be the best target for real change?
The biggest $ industry in the world: Energy generation and distribution. $8T per year.
The energy industry is shaping events domestically and in the international world order. See the war in Iraq. See the Koch bothers.
What’s the best way to undermine the $ power? Distributed energy generation. Home solar. Home wind. 40% of generated energy goes into structures.
You can also buy solar chargers for your electric car.
There is a reason worldwide there is less than $1B per year spent on renewable energy research. The energy industry owns our govs.
I recently read that the average Daily Kos user is white and over 50. This was represented as a bad thing. No. This is a GOOD thing. This means that many Kos users can afford solar and wind generators.
I'm not an expert in this field, so more knowledgeable people will have to fill in this info. However, I believe an effective home generation system may take several years of use before the owner sees real savings compared to buy power on the market.
That’s why white people in their 50s have the best chance of kick starting this revolution. You may have some retirement money. If you buy the next x number of year’s worth of power up front, you may not have to pay for power again in your life.
Once the distributed revolution gets momentum, it will start a virtuous cycle. More companies will invest in distributed power R&D. There will be momentum and a ripple effect of lower prices and new technologies.
This will redirect the money from big oil and gas frakking companies and Koch utility companies and to renewable startup companies. Once these energy companies start losing customers by the tens of thousands, it will cause systematic change. Less customers means lower market prices. Lower market prices means offshore drilling is more cost prohibitive. Lower profits means less money to fund campaigns of corrupt politicians. Etc.
