In its long and unending quest for Fair and Balanced news coverage, Fox News announced today that it has hired former Indiana Senator Evan Bayh to join their "news" team.

Fox News officially announced on Monday afternoon that former Democratic Senator Evan Bayh is becoming a contributor to the network.

Michael Clemente, the network's senior vice president for news, announced the move in a statement. He said that “Senator Bayh’s decades of experience in the political arena and his participation in key decisions in Washington will lend a valuable point of view to the entire Fox News lineup.”

“I’m pleased to offer analysis of public policy and politics to the millions of Americans who get their news from Fox,” Bayh said in the statement.

Remember, this is the same Evan Bayh who actually believed that the U.S. Senate was so progressive that it badly needed a Blue Dog Caucus.  In the Senate.

This is the same Evan Bayh who said in the wake of the 2010 elections that Democrats had lost by being too far to the left:

"There's going to be a tendency on the part of our people to be in denial about all this," Bayh told ABC News, but "if you lose Massachusetts and that's not a wake-up call, there's no hope of waking up..."

"The only we (sic) are able to govern successfully in this country is by liberals and progressives making common cause with independents and moderates," Bayh said. "Whenever you have just the furthest left elements of the Dem party attempting to impose their will on the rest of the country -- that's not going to work too well."

The same Evan Bayh whom Bill Maher correctly identified as personifying everything that is wrong with the Senate.

The same Evan Bayh who packages corporatist policies in "moderate" sheep's clothing.

Fox News is a perfect fit for the likes of corporatists like Evan Bayh.  He can provide the center-right "balance" to the far-right culture warriors like Palin and O'Relly.

At press time, however, it's unclear whether Fox News will now move to actually hire any commentators from the Democratic Party.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
