I have to admit, whenever tragedies like the Japan earthquake happen, I've come to expect the fundie fringe to interpret them as a call for the affected nation to repent. There hadn't been a peep for a week, so I thought this once--especially with the problems at the nuclear plants--that this would be an exception. But no. Today OneNewsNow rolls out an interview with Messianic Jewish leader Jan Markell suggesting that the earthquake is a call for Japan to repent.
"These so-called 'birth pangs' really are intensifying and getting greater and more frequent -- and I think it's a wake-up call, not just for the Japanese," she offers.
"We'd all like to think that the nation of Japan would turn and repent as a result of what happened. [While] we know that won't happen, we know individuals will.
Unbelievable. There are still thousands of people missing, food, water and gas are being rationed in some areas, we may be on the verge of a nuclear disaster there--and Markell spews this? Anyone who would even suggest this has no decency.
Incredibly, Markell thinks that even at this hour, it's acceptable to preach at people. No, Jan. Those people need food, water and (in some cases) a place to stay, not to be preached at. One of my friends had a name for people like you--"seagull Christians." Fly in and fly back out without doing anything productive.
