As you may or may not know, Canada is about to have an election. Yesterday, the Conservatives (led by Stephen Harper, aka Bush Lite) tabled a proposed budget and the leaders of the other parties all rejected it. This creates a situation where there will likely be a vote of non-confidence which will force an election in the coming weeks/months.
The guy on the phone sounded like a young college republican (I would guess an unpaid volunteer) and he was straight to the point in his question.
"Would you consider voting for a Conservative candidate in an election such as your local representative xxxx xxxx?"
First off, they did not even get my voting district correct, I will be voting for a different slate of local candidates. In their defense, I live near the border of a voting district.
I responded: "I'm sorry to tell you that I would never ever vote for a conservative" in a calm and pitiful voice. He was polite and thanked me for my honesty.
I'm not sure what will happen in this election but I suspect Harper will win another minority government. Sad truth is that they have neutered their primary opposition, the liberals, through relentless attack messaging against Ignatiev who lived for ~20 years outside of Canada and was a Prof. at Harvard. They have painted him to be an egg-headed ivory tower foreigner and it is working as far as I can tell.
I wish I had a nationally syndicated opinion show so I could inform people about the truth.
