I'll confess, I used to think supporting the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee was a good idea. Ditto for the DCCC. But then I realized that the primary interest of these groups is to keep their own team in charge and the welfare of the nation could go to hell, for all they care. So, I'm more than tired of getting solicitations for more money from the Senate Democrats every time the Republicans do something more outrageous than what prompted the begging letter the last time.
Extortion. That's what's being perpetrated every time a letter goes out with the message "send money, or the honorable Senator from so-and-so will whack your mother, your son or your favorite radio program." It's the latter that's being held hostage this time around.
We should be trying to put Americans back to work, not trying to put public radio out of business.
That's what Harry Reid wrote and I agree, but note the subjunctive and that "we" is the subject of both clauses. Harry's identifying with his colleagues and that's the problem. They're all in the good cop/bad cop scenario together.
(Maybe it's just their fund raising consultants that like this game, but it still sucks)
Harry goes on to say:
I’m not satisfied with playing defense. Democrats are ready to move this country forward by investing in our future – rebuilding our infrastructure, improving our schools, and focusing on innovations that will create not just jobs, but entire industries.
Well, I'm not satisfied with Congress considering the stewardship of our nation's resources and assets a game.
Then he says:
We’re ready to go on offense, waging a tough grassroots campaign to preserve our majority, standing strong with Democratic incumbents and recruiting top-flight challengers to take on vulnerable Republicans.
What's with this "ready" business? Not to mention that there's a number of Democratic incumbents I can do without. Claire McCaskill comes to mind, as did Blanche Lincoln the last time around.
For the record, the Dems in Class I, whose terms are up, are:
Akaka, Daniel K. (D-HI)
Bingaman, Jeff (D-NM)
Brown, Sherrod (D-OH)
Cantwell, Maria (D-WA)
Cardin, Benjamin L. (D-MD)
Carper, Thomas R. (D-DE)
Casey, Robert P., Jr. (D-PA)
Conrad, Kent (D-ND)
Feinstein, Dianne (D-CA)
Gillibrand, Kirsten E. (D-NY)
Klobuchar, Amy (D-MN)
Kohl, Herb (D-WI)
Manchin, Joe, III (D-WV)
McCaskill, Claire (D-MO)
Menendez, Robert (D-NJ)
Nelson, Ben (D-NE)
Nelson, Bill (D-FL)
Stabenow, Debbie (D-MI)
Tester, Jon (D-MT)
Webb, Jim (D-VA)
Whitehouse, Sheldon (D-RI)
There's quite a few I can do without. The Nelsons spring to mind, as does Kent Conrad and Joe Manchin, for a start. But, targeting "vulnerable" Republicans has a very predatory sound. Not edifying, Harry. Not something I want to be associated with. No money for you, DSCC.
