Peace, everyone.
I have become very cynical over the years of politicians. Nearly all of them have burned me in some way or another. I started becoming active during Jim Webb's senate campaign and was disappointed in his needless rightwing submissive rhetoric opposing the already really conservative healthcare bill.
Same with Mr Obama... . from his about face (lying?) on the FISA bill, to not really helping homeowners, not prosecuting any bankers, continuing the BSS (Bush Security State), and on an on.
But there is one person who has largely stuck to his progressive principles, all the while representing a middle of the road state. He is the only politician I have donated to in the last one and a half years.
His name is Bob Casey.
I support him even though I live in Chicago and will probably never see him in real life, and he is not likely to ever represent me.
Here is just a few highlights from his first term in office:
1) Casey was only one of 7 Senators to vote against a measure that would have blocked federal funds to ACORN, a group that has "come under fire after hidden-camera videos show ACORN workers in Baltimore giving financial advice to individuals posing as a pimp and a prostitute; they were actually conservative activists." (LINK)
2) Even though he is not pro-choice -- he has been very middle of the road about it, quashing attempts at limiting government funding of service providers who also provide abortion services and supporting Plan B ( LINK)
3) He voted for the healthcare reform bill despite heavy opposition from his state (remember he took over from Rick odifourous Santorum) -- by the way -- the anti-choice crowd is NOT happy with hisperformance on the Stupak deal
4) Finally Senator Casey requested money be set aside within the TARP bill to help homeowners. He took the unusual step of publicly criticizingthe administration recently for moving too slowly to help homeowners.
So net-net? Bob Casey is not perfect. But he is predictable and progressive.
I think he's worth voting for with your wallet.
Please donate today or tomorrow. His 2012 campaign is attempting to raise $24,000 by end of day tomorrow to show how much support he has.

BTW I am not affiliated with the campaign in anyway except as a contributor (and never have been).
