Yesterday, after a powerful march through Milwaukee commemorating the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., a group of us doing GOTV and recall signings in a predominantly African-American community in north Milwaukee invited Jesse Jackson to come speak to the people. We were amazed when he agreed, and even more amazed when he showed up with an entourage. You can read about the day (and the amazing Playground Legend Van) in yesterday's Recall Darling diary.
This is a 5 minute video of the Reverend's impromptu speech. It is fairly clear, though I must stress that we were really flying by the seat of our pants. I've heard Reverend Jackson speak numerous times, and this is him at his best: intermixing history, stories of struggle, and the need to be politically engaged.
