I know this is just a brief post, but Doug La Follette, Wisconsin Secretary of State, is asking to withdraw his appeal of Judge Sumi's order, because he never authorized it in the first place: http://host.madison.com/... . And another poke in the eye to Scott Walker.
Doug is a Democrat who has held on to the office of Secretary of State for many years through Republican and Democratic administrations. Tommy Thompson stripped his office of duties and authority as much as possible, but Doug soldiered on, relying on name identification and Democratic affiliations to keep himself in office.
When the union-busting law passed the legislature and was signed by Walker, it still needed publication to become official. And that duty lies with the Secretary of State. Doug delayed publication as long as necessary to let the lawsuit be filed for the injunction against the law. Scott Walker's Attorney General, a Republican, undertook the representation of the Secretary of State, and proceeded to file an appeal from Judge Sumi's restraining order, in the name of the Secretary of State. At the last court hearing, Judge Sumi let Doug fire the A.G. as his attorney, and now, through his new attorney, Roger Sage, Doug says that he never asked for the appeal, and wants to withdraw it. If the Supreme Court allows him to withdraw the appeal (and they have no reason to deny his request), Judge Sumi's order stands for the duration of the trial in her court.
Update: My first time on the rec. list. I am honored.
