Remember this, from the healthcare reform debate? Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) revealed his true feelings toward women:
I don't need maternity care. And so requiring it to be in my insurance policy is something that I don't need and that will make the policy more expensive
If Kyl doesn't need it, it doesn't need to exist. Because women don't count. He's at it again, today.
Everybody goes to clinics, to doctors, to hospitals, so on. Some people go to Planned parenthood. But you don’t have to go to Planned Parenthood to get your cholesterol or your blood pressure checked. You go to Planned Parenthood to get an abortion, and that’s well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does.
Actually, some women to have to go to Planned Parenthood or another women's clinic to get their blood pressure or cholesterol checked. For some women, there aren't other clinics available. For some women, Planned Parenthood's sliding fee scale is the only way they can afford to get basic health care. Only 535 people in America have their own personal attending physician who "provides members of Congress with physicals and routine examinations, on-site X-rays and lab work, physical therapy and referrals to medical specialists from military hospitals and private medical practices" at no charge.
Oh, and he lied. Ninety percent of what Planned Parenthood does is basic preventive healthcare. Not that Kyl is going to let the truth get in the way of his misogyny. Really. It's true. Called on this lie by CNN anchor Dan Lemon, his spokesperson came up with this:
LEMON: We did call his office trying to ask what he was talking about there. And I just want to give it you verbatim here. It says, 'his remark was not intended to be a factual statement, but rather to illustrate that Planned Parenthood, a organization that receives millions of dollars in taxpayer funding, does subsidize abortions.
Truthiness! Not meant to be factual! Kyl can stand on the floor of the Senate and make a statement . . . but it's not meant to be factual. Fuck you, Senator Kyl.
