On Tuesday, April 5th, Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) announced the Republican’s 10-year budget proposal. Not only will this plan repeal the Affordable Care Act and take way health insurance from more than 32 million Americans -- it will also end Medicaid and Medicare as we know it.
Fully two-thirds of Ryan’s program cuts fall on the poorest Americans at the same moment big corporations and millionaires get huge tax breaks. The House Republican budget plan also does nothing to control escalating healthcare costs – it simply enriches insurance companies while seniors and hard-working families would pay more for healthcare while receiving less coverage.
The House Republicans' approach to healthcare reform is to take it away from those who might need it most. We have to fight for these life-saving programs that our seniors, people with disabilities and children depend upon. Call your member of Congress and tell them to say no to extreme congressional attempts to balance the budget on the backs of seniors and working families.
This isn’t just about the budget--it’s about what we value as a country. Do we value ensuring a strong Medicare program that will be there for seniors when they need it? The ludicrous Ryan budget plan would have us turn our backs on our parents and grandparents who depend upon Medicare as their lifeline.
The bottomline: We’ve got to put the heat on members of Congress to fight this proposal tooth and nail until we have a federal budget that does not inflict egregious harm on those who can least afford it. Tell your member of Congress to reject the House Republican budget proposal now.
The House GOP budget proposal breaks America's most basic promise: That if you work hard and play by the rules, you can take care of your family and retire with peace of mind, knowing that you won't have to break the bank if you get sick.
Call Congress today to reject the radical House Republican budget proposal.
