Evironmental hero Tim DeChristopher will be speaking to 10,000 attendees at the Powershift Conference Saturday evening.
The Powershift conference runs April 15-18th and has over 10,000 young climate justice activists in attendance. For a small donation, conference goers can pick up an orange sash at the Peaceful Uprising table on the first floor of the Washington conference center. The sash is a symbol of solidarity with Tim, support for his action and a symbol of the red rock wilderness Peaceful Uprising is fighting to protect.
A tar sands operation in Utah's red rock wilderness was just approved. DeChristopher became an environmental folk hero when he interrupted a BLM oil and gas lease auction in 2008. Tim, aka Bidder 70 was convicted last month on two felony counts for interupting the auction. Peaceful Uprising hosted four days of singing, actions and solidarity in Salt Lake City surrounding Tim's trial.
Peaceful Uprising is requesting interested individuals and groups sign up at the Powershift table to help fight tar sands and to attend Tim's sentencing or hold solidarity actions on June 23, 2011. For more information check out www.PeacefulUprising.org.
Tim will be speaking shortly after 8:30 pm in the main session Saturday evening.
