This is what I say to people. Honestly, if you went to a restaurant and had a terrible experience--as in, if it was clear to you they were just taking your money and did not care about you, or about the quality they produced would you go back?
No.
Would you go back for FIFTEEN YEARS? Clearly, no.
Yet fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates do exactly that. They support an owner who cares not for them or for the quality on the field.
Which brings us to : What's the matter with Kansas? Why do people continue to vote and act against their own interest? And identify with powerful interests who are quite literally laughing at their naive nature?
I don't have the answer but only know that the Republican house and many Republican governors are acting alot like the owners of the Pirates. Fine, we'll take your money and your rantings about death panels and socialism and "Was he born in Kenya?"-talk too. We'll motivate you by jumping on the crazy train.
Bring it on. Get us elected and we'll promptly vote to dismantle Medicare! And get rid of collective bargaining. And regulations for clean air.
All so you could feel "more American" and non-elitist, like that "other" party.
Unless and until we all wake up and realize that the powerful will continue to take advantage of the powerless, we can't have that "adult conversation" they all keep rambling about. Our short term memory of what the Rs did for 8 years seems gone. Or, at least it was to the majority of independents and Dems who sat at home for the 2010 elections. Here's hoping their overreach and Wisconsin and Paul Ryan has jogged the memory a bit.
I guess this diary offers no real solutions. It's a Saturday's muse on why I won't support the Pirates or the Republicans. What they are "selling" is self interest. Pure and simple.
