Former first lady Christie Vilsack announced this morning she is exploring a run for Congress – and her political website is up and soliciting donations.
Vilsack, a Democrat, will move to Ames next month so that she could compete against Republican U.S. Rep. Steve King of Kiron.
King is seen as a formidable incumbent who has won re-election by wide margins, but typically against little-known, under-financed candidates. King is a tea party favorite and a nationally prominent, outspoken figure in conservative circles, speaking out against illegal immigration and leading the fight to repeal what he calls “ObamaCare.”

In speaking to a group of Democratic state senators earlier this week, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack characterized the potential match-up as a "holy war" and urged them to "stay tuned."
The new Iowa map puts King and the current 4th District representative, Republican Tom Latham, in the same district. But Latham says he'll move to the 3rd District to face Democratic Rep. Leonard Boswell.

Ah, Steve King, how I love thee. Let me count the ways.
- #1 inductee into Immigration Hall of Shame
- Hosts GOP POTUS events
- Social Moderation kills jobs
- Threatened government shutdown over HCR
- Socialist ACA violates American Exceptionalism
- Cannot distinguish 'mendacity' and 'veracity'
And that's just a start.
This guy is crazy, mean, loud, and obnoxious. So on behalf of all right-thinking carbon based life forms, let me say...
Go Christine Vilsack!
