As an introduction to my writing, I'd like to speak about a gap I see across the country, but which is most disregarded by it's own residents, I believe, in the south. The lack of focus in grassroot organizing by liberals in conjunction with the Democratic Parties of Georgia, of Alabama, of Kentucky, and of other red-labeled states have meant almost silencing progressive voices in these states. My northern friends watch the news and comment on the "crazy" policies now being passed in Georgia's legislature-- including the latest Arizona-like immigration bill-- but what's crazy to me is the abandonment, that as a party we've simply given up on true organization of liberals in the south. There is no apparent strategies matriculating down to volunteers in Georgia; it's as if the party messages that there's no need to try in 2012. I hope this ultimatley serves as a platform to engage the democratic party of Georgia into a much-needed focus on community organizing and outreach, and will do so by spending considerable time highlighting the pockets of activism that are flourishing in Georgia in support of progressive policy.
