I've been sitting on the sidelines far too long.
OK...I haven't really been sitting on the sidelines. I've been sitting in the bleachers watching the game.
Alright, alright...To be honest, I've not always been in the bleachers. Sometimes, I've hid under them if I haven't liked how the game was going.
No more.
It is time to get in the game.
I have been reading DailyKos obsessively for the past several months. I feel this is a community that shares my values. Most postings are respectful and fact-based. There seems to be a genuine desire to make this world a better place. I may not agree with every post, but I see honest feelings and opinions being shared. Disagreements are typically handled respectfully and factually.
While I have been reading obsessively, I have also been working hard to break my writer's block. Writing has been one my passions for a long time. However, life circumstances, insecurities, and depression has been keeping me from translating my thoughts to paper or computer.
I have been reading an inspirational book by Brenda Ueland. First published in 1938, If You Want To Write is an amazing book to reignite any passion you might have, not just writing. When I read the following, it shook me to my core.
Everybody is talented, original, and has something important to say.
It felt like a push off the cliff. It was time to spread my wings, or give up and hide under the bleachers again. Problem is, people typically don't listen to the voices of those in hiding.
I've wanted to contribute to the site, but have been afraid to due to my own insecurities as mentioned above. But no longer. I am adding my voice to the discussion.
I will probably not have much breaking news...But I will share my thoughts. I will also share things like what is below if I think it is valid to current events.
So if you will indulge me, this cartoon was produced by the Disney studio during WWII. I think the message it has is timeless. We need to be driven by reason, and not emotion.
Thanks for reading!
