Last summer, the NAACP started a bit of a firestorm by pointing out the obvious--the tea party has a racism problem.
"We take no issue with the Tea Party. We believe in freedom of assembly and people raising their voices in a democracy," Ben Jealous, president and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said in a statement.
"We take issue with the Tea Party's continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no space for racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in their movement," Jealous said.
The tea party reaction was every bit as pathetic as one would expect...
Former Alaska Gov. Palin, a vocal advocate of the Tea Party movement, jumped into the heated race debate Monday night, assailing the NAACP resolution as an example of "typical divisive politics that is so absolutely unnecessary."
Fortunately for the NAACP, the tea party never passes on an opportunity to offer evidence to support the resolution. The video below has been making its rounds on the internet this weekend. In it, Grady Warren, a proponent of the tea party movement attempts to defend the movement from accusations of racism by using racist, inflammatory language.
Warning: The commentary in this video is very offensive. He questions the intellectual capacity of African-Americans. He calls for all Muslims to be deported. And he has plenty of nasty things to say about undocumented immigrants. The Examiner has a transcript--with fact-based rebuttals of his racist assertions--if you'd rather read than watch.
As Alvin McEwen at Pam's House Blend pointed out, this video was shot and posted before the midterms. This guy's side won the election. We can't let that happen again.
