Catherine Ferguson High School is the latest victim of the Republican's attack on women in this country and we should not let this stand.
On tonight's Rachel Maddow Show, she talked about how the emergency manager has plans to shut down this school for poor black young women. A school which helps these women overcome the fact that they got pregnant and makes sure they get the education they need to get into college and be the productive, smart women they were destined to be.
This school teaches these women responsibility and gives them the tools with which they can turn their lives around and not spend the rest of their lives in the streets.
I don't know how a campaign gets started here on DailyKos but we need to chip in and get one started. This assault on women must stop. We must do all we can to help these young women get ahead in this world. Keeping women barefoot, pregnant and poor is beyond disgraceful. I applaud Ms. Maddow for bringing this to our attention and now I call upon this community to start an email campaign and I hope like heck the Progressive Change Caucus will stand up and ask for contributions to launch a tv ad attacking this measure by the emergency manager.
We must make sure that everyone in Michigan and the country know about this. We must make sure they understand what is at stake. As long as women are denied the ability to control their reproductive health and welfare, as long as they are denied the ability to go to college, as long as they are denied the ability to work and earn a decent wage then they will be forced into marriages they do not want, to lives in slums and to having their children rot. This is not America.. this is not the promise and the hope of civil rights for all in this country.
It is time to connect the dots and call out the crap and the hypocrisy. It is time for women who read this site to stand up and to run for office at every level. It is time for every man and women who believes in civil rights to vote for those who will stand with them. It is time that the hall of Congress at that local, state and federal level look like our country. With women of color and all faiths and all ages making up half of the legislatures we can stop this assault on women's health. We can stand up for those that need help and we can make sure that we the people stand up and for and by the people of this country. We can guarantee that the promise and hope of all who have come before us is not wasted.
