I was hoping to move past this to more productive pursuits, but once again a rec list diary has thrown a powder keg into the arena. I'm here to light it.
The ten percent crowd is infuriated that those of us who actually have ideals object when they're smashed on the pavement. We're not happy with the pathetic blue-moon handouts this administration gives the us, so we must be the 'Professional Left'. We must be out to destroy Obama, and it's all done only out of a media whoring need for attention.
It couldn't possibly be because this president's administration has thrown us out on the street and adopted a policy of "of course we agree with our lunatic friends on the Right, just maybe not quite as much".
I won't take apart the whole diary, largely because most of it is an extended personal attack against Glenn Greenwald. Funny coming from a diary that starts with:
The revealing thing about the professional left attack on President Obama is that so much of it is demeaning and aimed at personality. One reads Wilentz's article with a sense that he's pounding the keyboard in anger directed personally at Mr. Obama. Or consider "environmentalist" Glenn Hurrowitz's article "Obama as Snuffleupagus: Expect our imaginary friend to skip out on Power Shift again"
No, we wouldn't want to demean people personally. Unless they're Glenn Greenwald. Fuck that guy, how dare he not support Obama.
Probably the most telling detail here is that the linked Hurrowitz article is not even angry but exasperated that Obama's chosen to support the other side. Where are the demeaning personal attacks? Apart from the DKos diary, that is -- which ends by melting into paranoia:
Due to what appears to be a deliberate failure to moderate here, I will HR threadjacks and obscene, homophobic, racist, or other heckling. The DailyKos "policy" that one should not HR in one's own diary has been subverted by people who organize HR swarms from facebook
If only someone with a bit more measured and fair view would step in. For example,
the diarist's comments almost immediately afterwards:
It just seems politically stupid to tear down your own allies even when you don't always agree with them.
Yeah! Don't tear down your allies! Unless they're the 'Professional Left' criticizing Obama! And if the diary is only criticizing pundits, then why does it cherry pick DKos comments that annoy the diarist? I can play that game too!
Good sunshine stuff, citizen k. (5+ / 0-)
About time the motives & ugly tactics of PL (most of whom are ex-repubs & libertarians anyway) are questioned.
Sorry, what was that about personal attacks?
Well, you know what? I'm deeply disappointed by the Obama presidency and its policies. I think we the Progressive Left think we were scammed by a presidential candidate who said one set of things and then completely threw it out the window when it came to running the country. I don't believe that a president that gives our side 10% and our opponents 90% is our ally. I do believe that the people here trying to sweep the administration's failings under the rug are a barrier to the Hope and Change we were promised, and I hope they realize that sooner rather than later. And I really, truly hope to hear from Candidate Obama again some day.
And, here's the big shock, the part that'll totally blow your minds. Nobody is paying me to say that. I don't even get paid per diary rec!

They're awfully unfriendly.
