I am, as all my friends and family know, an unrepentant liberal, a progressive, and a Democrat. I am a supporter of the president, I love that there are two Democratic senators from my state and that same state is strongly Blue.
But I'd be the first to admit that I have some conservative values, as well. I think most Americans do, to a greater or lesser degree. I think that the death penalty is a good idea, for the most part, though I agree that it has more than its share of problems. I think that, within reason, we do have the right to own guns - just not, you know, machine guns and grenade launchers.
And that's what I love about being a liberal - that I can have a different opinion than you without being labeled a traitor, or an idiot, or a kool-aid drinker. I like that there can be such a wide range of ideas and opinions within the progressive/liberal ideology.
I've been watching both sides of this silly pro-Obama/anti-Obama pie fight here for quite a while now, and I have to say that I enjoy it. I enjoy the fact that, unlike the conservatives, we have healthy debate within our own party. I enjoy knowing that at the end of the day, we're all one big family - and not all members of a family get along all the time.
That's why I love being a liberal - because our tent is big enough for everyone, and no one is excluded.
