Itzl woke me this morning alerting to thunder. He wanted us all to go into the storm shelter area of the house. Failing that, he wanted to go out on the patio to watch lightning.
I convinced him (finally!) that he could sit on the back of the sofa and watch the lightning from inside the house in comfort. Then he curled up in blankets to nap, but it was too late for - I am wide awake and have fun things to do.
Today is Beltane. I know it's not much of a holiday in America, but in Germany, we would leave May Baskets on one another's doors, filled with flowers and candy, to mark the first day of summer. I still celebrate it - it's a personal holiday, not a religious one - so now I have to arrange flowers in paper cones and tuck in some candies and deliver them to friends. My daughter's will contain Testors metalic paints and a couple of paint brushes so she can steampunk out her own bubble gun.
I wish Americans had more traditions where people did nice things for one another on a regular basis. And I have no idea why Hallmark hasn't jumped on the Beltane bandwagon - it's a perfect Hallmark type of holiday!
