Ross Douthat, a/k/a Chunky Reese Witherspoon, writes a column this morning and just cannot bring himself to write the word "Obama" even though his topic is the capture of Osama bin Laden, by Obama's orders. (Trust me. I even did a word search.)
I can't figure out how this compares with Joe Scarborough's sneering diss of the the Democratic "base" today, but along with the graceless other comments or non-comments by GOP candidates and pundits, it certainly fits their character.
I believe that with the tables reversed, Dems would have been effusive in their praise of Bush or any Republican who also captured bin Laden. First, because it's the right thing to do. Second, because the "liberal" media would go after them hammer and tongs if public Dems. did anything less than genuflect after the capture or killing.
By contrast, I doubt that those who made the non-comments, back-handed comments or bizarre comments like Joe S. will pay much or any price.
Finally, if Rumsfeld et al. are saying that continuity with Bush resulted in OBL's capture, surely they also believe that the persistence of a slow recovery is also attributable to Bush policies.
Right? Anyone? Cantor? Bueller? Ben Stein?
