Welcome the the Street Prophets Monday Coffee Hour / Open Thread. Big changes are coming to our Street. The upshot is we will be moving into a Daily Kos group. For further conversation about this see The Future of Street Prophets by Marko For today's suggested topic I want to re-visit a diary on Visual Metaphors that I did a while back. The group thought Marko's illustration was a good visual metaphor for our site. In other words our site was like a St. Gracie's cafe. What visual metaphor best represents Street Prophets? Before you answer the poll please take a look at some more pictures beyond the fold. And, keep in mind the upcoming move. -
- This is an Open Thread / Coffee Hour. Everyone is welcome to talk about your dinner plans, what is on your mind, or anything that pleases you. And, if this is your first visit to Street Prophets please introduce yourself in a comment.
A visual metaphor, also called a pictorial metaphor, is a metaphor in which something (the metaphor's "target") that is presented visually is compared to something that belongs to another category (the metaphor's "source") of things than the first, also presented visually. As in verbal metaphors (such as "football is war" or "the world is a stage"), at least one feature or association is "mapped" from the source to the target. Often, a whole set of (interrelated) features is mapped from source to target. wiki.answers.com

I tend to like the concourse at Golden Gate Park. The stage to me represents the "front page" and all the other gathering areas are the side bar diaries. It is large enough so everyone has room to be themselves. That doesn't mean that there is not a nice cafe to duck into near by. Maybe Marko will get a inspiration to make a new visual metaphor for Street Prophets based on this diary and new events, such as the upcoming move. What do you think?
