But you can't fool me.

Drilling for new oil will not lower gas pump prices.  Not now, not in the long term.  Not ever.  It's a ruse.

But you had a vote yesterday and passed a bill to fleece the American people and deliver them to the Energy Industry in a nice little box with a pretty little bow.

And here's what really busts my blowout preventer.  It wasn't bad enough that you put on a nice little show to create a piece of legislation that will do nothing but free up land that is now being protected from being raped by the energy industry, and that you even convinced a few Blue Dog republicans to come along on your Gulf Slick Express.  Because when a republican introduces a bill, the first thing they have to do is check to make sure it's been long enough for people to forget some damned thing.

But you did it, in my humble opinion, with the full involvement, guidance, advice and consent of the Energy Industry.  How do I know?

Because I'm not a fucking idiot.

You'd have to be to believe that A) oil compnanies don't have any control over crude pricing and B) they had nothing to do with this nauseatingly unconvincing song and dance they did this morning, in order to buy this performance - as I have no doubt most people WILL.

Naturally, the stories are everywhere!!!   "Hooray, this means gas prices are going to come down!!!   YAY!!!  And it was only one day after those Middle Class loving republicans convinced us to side with the Oil Companies!!  I guess they were right after all!!"

People can be really stupid.  I'll just say it right out.  Collectively speaking, when you get a bunch of us together, and make us choose between two stories we're being handed, we drift back and forth like a herd of sheep between a cliff and a pack of wolves.  But you don't fool me.

We just watched one of the most intricately staged buckets of bullshit I have seen since G.W. Bush.  Republicans get the bill passed, and Oil Co. will make people feel like gas may actually stop rising for good.  Maybe even unload those tiny, uncomfortable little hybrids and start Hummin' again!

Do you have to be so obvious about it?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Was there some abrupt outburst of new drilling my Mexican oil firms, in order to keep their gas prices low?

    (April 16, 2011)

"U.S. pump prices for regular unleaded gas ticked up to an average $3.82 Saturday, according to the AAA daily fuel gauge report, with prices reaching nearly $4.20 in California.

Pump prices are surging as oil rises to $109 a barrel on a stronger U.S. economy and war in Libya limits its output.

But south of the border prices at one gas station on Friday ranged from 34.4 pesos a gallon for regular to 38.8 pesos for premium -- equivalent to $2.94 to $3.31 a gallon."

Nine percent of Americans blame President Barack Obama and the U.S. government for this year's spike in gasoline prices, according to a new Washington Post/Pew Research Center poll.

...5 percent cited "not drilling enough" as an answer to the poll's open-ended question of who or what is to blame for high prices.

...30 percent blamed a combination of greed, profit and speculation. Nineteen percent pegged unrest in the Middle East and North Africa.

  •  Price of oil dropped 10% this week (0+ / 0-)

Why? Well it wasn't because the Republicans wanted to defund government provided abortions.

The price of oil dropped because (I'm not an expert in this field) the dollar is the lesser of two evils. To whit:

The other big world currency, the Euro, is having serious difficulty because some of it's member nations are in big financial trouble, most notably Greece. Commodities speculators are wanting to get out of the Euro and find something less downward spiral-ish. The dollar hasn't done anything too stupid this week so folks are buying dollars.

Well, the oil speculators got wind of this and decided that is would be more profitable to invest in dollars than oil so they sold their oil futures contracts.

Basically no one wants to invest in the currency of a banana republic. When currencies do banana republic-ish things, like default on their debt, investors get out. Let this be a lesson to the nutjob Repubs in Congress: Do not vote against the debt ceiling raise or our economy will die.
