But you can't fool me.
Drilling for new oil will not lower gas pump prices. Not now, not in the long term. Not ever. It's a ruse.
But you had a vote yesterday and passed a bill to fleece the American people and deliver them to the Energy Industry in a nice little box with a pretty little bow.
And here's what really busts my blowout preventer. It wasn't bad enough that you put on a nice little show to create a piece of legislation that will do nothing but free up land that is now being protected from being raped by the energy industry, and that you even convinced a few Blue Dog republicans to come along on your Gulf Slick Express. Because when a republican introduces a bill, the first thing they have to do is check to make sure it's been long enough for people to forget some damned thing.
But you did it, in my humble opinion, with the full involvement, guidance, advice and consent of the Energy Industry. How do I know?
Because I'm not a fucking idiot.
You'd have to be to believe that A) oil compnanies don't have any control over crude pricing and B) they had nothing to do with this nauseatingly unconvincing song and dance they did this morning, in order to buy this performance - as I have no doubt most people WILL.
Naturally, the stories are everywhere!!! "Hooray, this means gas prices are going to come down!!! YAY!!! And it was only one day after those Middle Class loving republicans convinced us to side with the Oil Companies!! I guess they were right after all!!"
People can be really stupid. I'll just say it right out. Collectively speaking, when you get a bunch of us together, and make us choose between two stories we're being handed, we drift back and forth like a herd of sheep between a cliff and a pack of wolves. But you don't fool me.
We just watched one of the most intricately staged buckets of bullshit I have seen since G.W. Bush. Republicans get the bill passed, and Oil Co. will make people feel like gas may actually stop rising for good. Maybe even unload those tiny, uncomfortable little hybrids and start Hummin' again!
Do you have to be so obvious about it?
