Today, Jan Brewer and Tom Horne (Attny Gen) took SB1070 directly to the Supreme Court.
Gov. Jan Brewer and Attorney General Tom Horne announced Monday that they will ask the nation's highest court to lift the injunction that has kept parts of Senate Bill 1070, the state's tough immigration law, from going into effect.
In appealing directly to the U.S. Supreme Court, Brewer and Horne are bypassing a full review by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
I can't predict how this will turn out. AZ residents favor the bill which requires cops to question people they stop about their immigration status. The current SCOTUS is pretty conservative and have shown they have minimal respect for stare decisis.
I am concerned this could turn Brewer into a saint of the right wing movement.
Few details and I can't keep up with this diary, because I am still working, but I want the community to be up to date. Someone will post a more concise diary, I'm sure, but head's up.
