If I'm forced to to talk politics with Republicans, I try to remember, Keep It Simple Stupid.
I don't get roped into specific subjects. I lead off with "I was there, I didn't vote for Reagan either time; I thought he was full of it. At that time Democrats said that Reaganomics would lead to the super rich having all the money and the working man would get nothing. And that's exactly what happened. So you are never going to convince me to come over to your side. Never!".
And that's usually enough. I wish more Democrats would simply state the problem like that. I get tired of the same old arguments, I've been hearing them for 50 years. It should be becoming clear to anyone at this point that The Republican way is not working here nor anywhere else in the world.
I live and work in Redneckville, PA. The voting records indicate that a good chunk of these rednecks are secretly voting Dem. Every once in a while one of them will admit it to me. I find that very satisfying. I doubt they would do that if I consistently argued with them about their racism or abortion or any other "hot button" moral issue. I don't consider that my job. I leave that to the experts.
