Y’all know everything is bigger in Texas, right? That includes presidential aspirations. The worst kept secret in Austin is that our Governor Rick Perry has his eye on the top job in the city he loves to hate in stump speeches: Washington, DC. And as the Republican presidential field implodes on itself, the rumors are that another Texan wants to hang his hat in the White House.
Rick Perry has been disastrous news for the state of Texas, and never has it been more apparent than in our current budget crisis. “Debt-free” Texas has a budget shortfall of $27 billion. Perry’s approach has been to slash more from an already lean budget, not using ANY money from the state’s savings account, the Rainy Day Fund.
The Perry budget plan will leave seniors out on the street, pack kids in classes like sardines and cost the state hundreds of thousands of jobs. Sound like a good plan for America? We don’t think so.
We’ve had plenty of time to get acquainted with Rick here in Texas - since he was first elected to the State Legislature as a Democrat back in 1985. He’s a skilled politico, no doubt about it, but he's created more than his share of controversy. As a Governor, Rick Perry’s greatest hits include:
• An attempt to mandate that teenage girls receive the HPV vaccine, after the vaccine manufacturer hired his former chief of staff as a lobbyist and funneled money to his campaign;
• The Trans-Texas Corridor, a massive land-grab and developer give-away that would have used eminent domain to take half a million acres of Texas land and given it to a foreign corporation in order to build toll roads all over the state;
• A shady-land deal in which a state-official sold Perry and undervalued piece of land at a resort community, which Perry then sold to an alleged arms dealer for a profit of nearly $500,000 above market value;
• Railing against the evils of the federal government while quietly accepting billions in federal stimulus, allowing Texas to fill its budget gap.
And there’s so much more. Check out our campaigns to expose Rick Perry’s hypocrisy and corruption here. Please, get to know the man that suggested secession from the United States.
We think you’ll agree that a Perry presidency is a very scary thing indeed for our country. If you don't want the prospect of a Perry presidency, please click "like" at the top of the diary to share the truth about Rick Perry with as many people you can!
