Invitation to Kapanke fundraiser with Paul Ryan
Republicans just can't stop apologizing for making mistakes about Rep. Paul Ryan. This time, top Wisconsin recall target Dan Kapanke is the one making public atonement.
Sometime before May 8, Dan Kapanke's campaign sent out invitations to a fundraiser on May 19 "with Special Guest, Congressman Paul Ryan!" The invitation is on the left, and you can click to see a larger version.
However, it turns out that Paul Ryan was never scheduled to attend the event. This detail only appears to have been revealed today, at least two weeks after the invites were distributed:
Kapanke Campaign Manager Jennifer Harrington confirmed to The Huffington Post that Ryan will not be attending, repeatedly stressing that it was entirely the campaign's fault for failing to confirm the congressman's attendance before sending out the invitation.
"Our event staff never confirmed with the Congressman's office that he was actually coming and sent out the invitation without confirming with his office," said Harrington. "The mistake was entirely on our end. He had never planned on coming. He's attending a family event this evening."
The Kapanke campaign simply printed up and distributed dozens of inaccurate invitations to a fundraiser, then spent weeks mistakenly claiming that Paul Ryan was going to attend that fundraiser. It's entirely their fault, and no other explanation makes sense. There is no chance that Ryan pulled out of the event because of a planned counter-protest, burned Kapanke, and then made the Kapanke campaign apologize for getting burned. Asserting otherwise is tantamount to questioning the doctrine of Paul Ryan infallibility, which as we all know is heresy.
I've moved Dan Kapanke's Democratic challenger, state Representative Jennifer Schilling, to the top of the Orange to Blue page. You can counter Dan Kapanke's minimum $250-a-head fundraiser by chopping in $6 to her campaign.
