Obama is dead in the water if you look at it honestly from a laymans perspective. Gas sky high, economy trudging along but still getting fed through IV's. Unemployment as far as the eye can see, people are truely scared. Robot republicans doing kamakazee dives on all types of legislation just to undermine the country. Even progressives starting to bail in hurt, dissapointment and telling anybody who will listen, "I want my money back." Obama has got a tidal wave against him, but I got HOPE.
From now on, Im gonna take my grandmothers advice on it. Follow me below for what she expressed to me.
She said,
Hope is inate to all animals. Hope is the basic necesssity to put one foot in front of the other, everyday and do what you do. Hope is what makes people get up in the morning. Hope is what made us hand out fliers, donate time and money (and that latent hope, because no human stops hoping) is what is gonna pull Obama through to win again.
I said what, why? She said,
Because his campaign awakened in a lot of us a hope we had never had before about our country, about our fellow human beings and about the goodness of man. He awakened in us the beauty of what we wanted, hoped, could be for our country. He awakened in black folk the hope that finally, finally we could possibly be considered equal, a manifestaion of their hopes for their sons and daughters in a world full of hate and bigotry. He awakened in white folk all their hopes and dreams of what America could be. That America could finally get past racism and hatred to see that America was better than the 60's and Jim Crow. He awakened in immigrant people the biggest hope of all. That they could have that american dream Obamas father had and by extension, Obama became their great black hope. He united millions believe it or not. Just look at some of the things you talk about in the world today. Haave you ever talked to so many differnt races of people in all your life since before this man appeared? What do you do in this world today because of this man? God put this man here for this moment, for this time, for this pupose. Just look at how he conducted his life with rigor and purpose once he understood himself and his place in the world.
I said mudder, I call her mudder, What in the heck are you talking about? She said,
With all the odds against him in the first run on the WH. Funny name, background, easy on the eye, called an empty suit, a fraud, a radical, a trickster, a do nothing. They threw the kitchen sink at him. How the hell they say he was never vetted is beyond me. Yall wanted to know everything about him and you found out. He was vetted alright, with love and hope. All of that..and he still managed to grab a hold of millions of peoples hands to win with wide margins. God put him here for that purpose. (I remember the night he was about to take Cali sitting in my living room with my grandmother, mother and father and my brother, his wife, my sister and all my neices and nephews plus my grandaughter. I realized it was not just my family it was America that was hold ing its breath. That was the second time I ever saw my 72 year old father cry.)
People like him because he is, despite being in politics, a likable guy and believe it or not, a picture of what millions hope for. A true manifestation of millions of hopes and dreams. Admit it, dont admit it. Your loss. I have my reservations because cynicism is gonna creep in when all expectations have not been met. This is human nature, but my pulse does get to jumping when I think back over that campaign and my hope for this country. If people were honest, Obama didnt take you down the rabbit hole. You willingly wanted to go, Obama just made the fall easier. He appeared to be all of what YOU dreamed.
I dont know about anyone else, but I still choke about that manifestaion of what we did Nov 2008 and I go back sometimes and look at that acceptance for the nomination speech because, I truely began to believe that anything could be possible when I heard him speak. Other people also thought many things could be possible. I still think we might get another shot at the impossible in 2012. So this hope never dies.
