Since March 20, when an online petition - Proclamation that Arizona's Congressional District #8 is Vacant - was posted, 165 have people signed it in an attempt to get Giffords out of her seat in the House of Representatives.
KOLD
Of course they don't have a Constitutional leg to stand on. The Constitution does not provide for recall elections aimed at House members. However, that doesn't stop the petitioners from asking Jan Brewer (yes, the Governor has so much authority over a Federal employee) to appoint a replacement.
The online petition is aimed at Gov. Jan Brewer, asking her to open up the seat.
But that's not in her power, said Peter Goudinoff, a retired political science professor and former state legislator.
"These people need to read the Constitution. The Constitution governs this and there's only three ways a representative can be removed. Either they resign, they die or they are expelled, two-thirds of the house can expel any member."
Reading the Constitution is unAmerican when you already know what it ought to say.
I'm not going to say the first thing that comes to mind. Or the second. Or the third.
...
After discarding a few dozen vile comments, let me say something that won't get me HR'd: the people who set this up should be ashamed of themselves.
Let me predict with 100% confidence that if Giffords was a Republican this would not be happening.
Let me predict with 100% confidence that if Jan Brewer was a Democrat this would not be happening.
The eliminationist wing (side? plurality?) of the GOP will take any opportunity, no matter how heartless, sleazy, and unconstitutional to attack a Democrat. It's all about winning to these people.
I am heartened that there are only 210 signatures. Including those from "Imameanspirtedasshole" and "youpeoplearefuckingstupid andyourefuckingassholes".
You may want to tell them what you think of them. Avoid anything that can be construed as a threat. Avoid anything that can be construed as hate speech.
It's an exercise in creative writing. GO!
