I apologize for the short diary, but as I link below, Steven D really covered the guts of this case incredibly well two months ago. Just thought the news should get out.
Man guilty of raping teen church member
CONCORD, N.H. — A New Hampshire man was found guilty Friday of forcibly raping and impregnating his children's 15-year-old baby sitter, who belonged to the same church, more than a decade ago.
The case involving 52-year-old Ernest Willis of Gilford garnered national attention because the pastor of the fundamentalist Baptist church he and the girl attended made her apologize to the congregation.
The victim's story, highlighted in Steven D's excellent diary seven weeks ago, was horrifying. 15 years old, raped by a deacon in her church, and then her pastor forced her to take the blame in her church, in front of everyone, and then sent her off to Colorado to live with people she didn't know.
Today, justice was served, and the detectives who pursued this case 13 years after it happened deserve a lot of credit for their work. Ms. Anderson's soul will hopefully be able to now recover, finally.
9:12 PM PT: Holy shit. I went away to make dinner and watch Judgement at Nuremberg, which was on HBO, then the Obama 2008 election documentary came on, and I come back, and I'm right by the top of the rec list. Thank you guys, and thanks Steven D, for bringing this to my attention two months ago. =)
9:23 PM PT: Ok, I said something in comments, but I want to clarify additionally here for everyone's benefit. The man was a deacon in the church. My uncle served as a deacon in his Baptist church in Kentucky, and often gave Sunday sermons. Therefore, preacher is not an inaccurate statement. However, I will edit the original text to reflect his position specifically.
