The Milwaukee Journal has just released a short update on a GAB ruling. The GAB is the board which oversees/manages Wisconsin elections. They have announced that due to legal complexities, they will require an extra week to rule on the three Democratic recalls.
By "Democratic recalls", I mean the attempts to recall three Democratic state senators.
This is not a prediction that these three recalls will be thrown out. It is a strong indication that the GAB feels these three cases are different than the other six senatorial recalls. (All against GOP senators.) The GAB has already approved recalls against three of the six GOP senators. This ruling leads one to believe the three remaining GOP recalls are seen to be, for lack of a better term, routine. Odds are, the GAB will approve six recall elections against GOP senators.
The three Democratic cases are different. The GAB predicts a court challenge no matter how it rules. They want to be sure to do a complete job in anticipation of this. Hence the need for the extra week.
This in turn leads one to conclude that the three Democratic recalls have a much stronger chance of being rejected by the GAB. It is hard to come to any other conclusion. Even if the GAB does approve the recalls, they will not be routine decisions. They will be close legal decisions. The GAB is likely to want judicial confirmation of their decisions.
And of course this leads one to hope that the recalls against the Democratic senators will be thrown out all together. When that one is one who wore out a pair of shoes following around Recall Wirch petiotion-passers, it is very hard to bite down on these hopes.
But in a week of great news, this is one tasty cherry atop the sundae.
Updated downstairs ... new legal twist.
