Leave it to Howard Dean to talk reality about the way forward for our party.
Opened my email this morning in this remote camp in Zambia during our current 100 nights in Africa, and found this bit of encouraging news.
Gov Dean discussed the opportunities handed us by teh crazy Medicare Killers in the House of Representatives.
Hungry as a lion for some fresh opportunities?
Yes, the Republicans have finally done it, and to paraphrase Howard Dean, its going to come back and bite them in the butt.
Paul Ryan's plan to kill Medicare is going to cost the Republicans their majority in the House. Just look at what happened in New York this week -- Democrat Kathy Hochul won a special election to Congress in the most Republican district in the state. Not even Barack Obama could win that district in 2008 and he won New York State by 25 points.
Republican Jane Corwin's campaign collapsed after she endorsed Paul Ryan's radical right-wing plan to destroy Medicare -- and there are dozens of Republicans across the country in swing districts and even Democratic-leaning districts who voted to kill Medicare. The road to a Democratic majority lies through these districts.
One of these districts is in Illinois, where we already have an outstanding progressive candidate in the race -- Ilya Sheyman. Ilya is one of us. He's a grassroots progressive and he's putting together a campaign to win in Illinois. This is a Democratic district and we can win it and a Democratic majority in 2012 with your support today.
As Dr. Dean points out, and as many of us are already too aware after last session's Dem majority did not meet our expectations, we need more progressives in Congress and the way to get them there is lending them our support.
One way to do this is replacing the Medicare Killers and contributing to the election of progressives to replace them.
My mother's life was saved by a Medicare funded bypass operation. Perhaps you have other examples to share of the importance of keeping Medicare strong?
Would you like to see 'Medicare For All' ? I would.
Anyone else ready to give Republican Medicare Killers a good 'licking?'
