A couple days ago, I wrote a diary detailing just some of the batshit stuff coming out of Bryan Fischer’s mouth – from his idea that Muslims aren’t protected by the First Amendment to his proposal that profanity be criminalized. Well, I guess I wrote that diary just a little too soon (then again, it’s always “too soon” to give the full wingnut story on Bryan Fischer).
A few weeks ago, Bryan Fischer (who, if you don’t know, is arguably the wingnuttiest wingnut in the American Family Association, an SPLC-certified hate group) made the claim that gay people are the number-one perpetrators of hate crimes. This is nothing all that new coming from a man who has called gay people Nazis, equated homosexuality with the slave trade, and demanded that gay people be prevented from running for elected office. But this time he went a little further (that seems to be Fischer’s M.O.) and accused gay people of committing an unprecedented number of hate crimes against the godly people standing up against the homosekshual agenda. Either Fischer is confused about what a “hate crime” is (Hint: “I hated it” is not a reason to call something a hate crime), or these ghastly hate crimes just don’t make the news because of the librul media and the homosekshual lobby.
I am convinced that the number-one group, the number-one class of people, who are committing hate crimes today are homosexual activists. They are, by far, the most egregious perpetrators of hate crimes offenses in the United States of America – all the while, trying to tell the public that we are the hatemongers.
So, building on his mission to expose gay activists for what they are – vicious attackers of fundamentalist Christians and hate crimes perpetrators – Fischer is now claiming that allowing gay people to serve openly in the military will turn the United States military into a cesspool of hate crimes offenses. Not against gay soldiers, of course, but by gay soldiers against Christian soldiers. Because that’s how things like this work in Fischer’s universe, where up is down and ignorance is strength.
You’re gonna have the homosexual lobby committing one hate crime after another against service members, especially officers who have deeply-held religious convictions about the acceptability of homosexual behavior. And so I’m predicting that things are about to get very ugly in the United States military for people of faith. We are going to see principle-driven officers, one after another, are going to become the victims of systematic hate crimes. This is gonna be a pogrom, this is gonna be virtual genocide, military genocide, career genocide, for people of faith in the military – perpetrated by the homosexual lobby.
Yesterday, accompanying this tirade, Fischer wrote a column saying pretty much the same thing.
Get ready for an entire spate of hate crimes in the U.S. military, perpetrated by homosexual activists against servicemembers, especially officers, who have deeply held religious convictions about the acceptability of homosexual behavior.
With the repeal of the ban on homosexuality in the military, things are about to get ugly for people of faith.
Only this time, he invokes an Air Force officer he claims to have had communication with who is worried about becoming the latest victim in the rash of “homosexual hate crimes.” The officer, of course, is anonymous (so are the other characters Fischer invents to make his points, I'm sure).
I received a communique from a career United States Air Force officer, a man who has been an officer for 19 years. He understandably wants his identity to be protected so that he can finish his military career without himself becoming the victim of a hate crime perpetrated by homosexuals.
And then Fischer moves on to the ominous training sessions every wingnut is so worried about. In almost every account of the training sessions repeated by wingnuts, they sound like North Korean reeducation exercises.
His sobering account of the training sessions that have been conducted for officers in the wake of the repeal make it clear that principle-driven officers are about to become the victims of systematic hate crimes unless they just shut up and go away.
Says this experienced officer, based on the training he was just recently subjected to:
“Homosexuals are now a protected class of people in the Air Force. Any form of discrimination against them — even an objection to the sexual lifestyle or behavior — is now taboo and will be severely punished.”
Severe punishment for merely expressing reservations about the normalcy of homosexual behavior? Can you say “hate crime?” I certainly can.
And the anonymous officer in Fischer’s account is not alone. Turns out, everybody’s scared of the big bad homosexuals.
The fact that this hate-crime threat intimidated these officers into silence became clear based on what happened after the officers – who uttered not a peep of protest in the training sessions – were free from the constraints of the training room. They “spent considerable time discussing the indoctrination, the double standards, and the problems we’ll face in the future.” In other words, when they could speak freely without worrying about becoming the victim of a hate crime, they expressed all kinds of problems with the change in policy. But the senior officers who did the training will be able to say, hey, nobody registered a single complaint during training, everything’s terrific.
Yep, that’s the homosexual agenda for you. Intimidating bigots into silence by using the looming threat of a hate crime. That’s how it works.
And that’s not the worst of it – soon, once DADT is finally repealed, gay soldiers will commit hate crimes against straight soldiers who refuse to sleep or shower with them. Because everybody knows gay people go for the straight ones. And then when we don’t get our way, we commit a hate crime against them. Really?
The officer who wrote to me went on to explain that there was “absolutely no discussion about the right of personnel to be free from unwanted sexual attraction…the guy who asks me out on a date Monday afternoon will be granted the right to shower with me on Tuesday morning…While there is currently some leeway for heterosexuals to object to intimate quarters with homosexuals…senior leaders in the room made it clear that such objections will not be tolerated for long.” In other words, they will experience both threats and harassment for any complaints, meaning, in other words, that they will become the victims of a hate crime.
Fischer continues:
And the campaign of intimidation is working. “I don’t know of a single officer who is willing to buck the system and oppose the policy…The senior officers shrug their shoulders and say, ‘I’m not about to let this destroy my career and result in the loss of my well-being and pension.’
Frankly, rightly or wrongly, that’s how I feel. I have no hope that anything I say publicly will change the direction of this train. I am therefore unwilling to sacrifice my entire career on the altar of homosexuality. That might be cowardly, but it is realty.”
Hmmm. “Destroy career…loss of pension…sacrifice my career.” All because of prejudice against one’s religion. Hate Crimes R-Us.
[…]
Bottom line: when it comes to hate crimes, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Homosexual activists have a cudgel in hand, and they’re coming after you.
Of course, using Bryan Fischer’s asinine definition of “hate crime,” the number-one perpetrator of hate crimes in the United States just might be…Bryan Fischer.
As Good As You points out:
*REMINDER: This is the same Bryan Fischer who's said "Homosexuals in the military gave us...six million dead Jews". The guy who's said "homosexuals should be disqualified from public office," has called on Christian conservatives to breed gays and progressives out of existence, has called gay sex a "form of domestic terrorism," who's said only gays were savage enough for Hitler, has compared gays to heroin abusers, has directly compared laws against gay soldiers to those that apply to bank robbers, who once invoked a Biblical story about stabbing "sexually immoral" people with spears, saying we need this kind of action in modern day, who has spoken out against gays serving as public school teachers, has questioned why Medals of Honor are given to people who save lives (rather than take lives), who says that open service will "assign the United States to the scrap heap of history," who recently commiserated with Bradlee 'Executing homosexuals is moral' Dean, and who has blamed gay activists for dead gay kids, saying that: "If we want to see fewer students commit suicide, we want fewer homosexual students". The guy who said the only acceptable "culture war" truce would have gays giving up their demand for equality. The guy who painted Native Americans as innately cursed because they "cling to the darkness of indigenous superstition". The guy who encourages an "ex-gay" mother to ignore court orders that she finds Biblically unfair (Just like Rosa Parks, dont cha know?). The guy who conservative Christian Warren Throckmorton aptly noted is "to the right of Jerry Falwell" on some LGBT issues. The guy whose words pretty much single-handedly landed the American Family Association on the Southern Poverty Law Center's hate groups list.
We’re hearing the final gasps of a soon-to-be-completely-irrelevant argument. As for Bryan Fischer, I’m sure we haven’t heard the last from him. He wouldn’t even be worth paying attention to if it weren’t for the fact that he and the AFA have so many braindead followers who hang on every word Fischer says. But it’s becoming clear that even the AFA might be starting to understand how out-of-the-mainstream they are, as Good As You also notes they have slowed down on uploading Fischer clips on their YouTube channel.
You just can’t make some of this shit up.
