Just when I think I can't be any more disgusted with the priorities in this country I see something new. Admiral Mullen, in an article at Military.com, says that cuts in troop pay and benefits (active and retirees) is on the table when looking at reducing the budget of the Department of Defense.
The entire article can be found here: http://www.military.com/...
He goes on to state that they will look at this before making significant cuts to hardware budgets. Excuse me, but these recruits sign a contract with the military when they join. Now they want to go back and change that contract. It's not as though any of the active duty men and women have any power to stop this change. They are captive for the length of their contract. Shouldn't the US Government honor their side of the committment.
Maybe if we can't afford to pay them then we shouldn't be sending them to fight these wars. They put their lives on the line and no one gets rich serving their country. The promises we make to these brave men and women should be the first thing we honor.
This just makes me want to cry. We continue to witness an attack on the poor, the most vulnerable and now the military itself to feed the tax cuts for the billionaires.
Will update later as I can.
