Pissed about the fact that AT&T's attempted takeover of TMobile will probably result in more expensive wireless bills? Well, that merger is like a trip to Disney World when you consider the possibility of two of America's biggest bloodsucking health insurance companies joining forces!
Yes, Dow Jones Newswires is reporting CIGNA's CEO as suggesting that a merger with Aetna would "carry certain benefits" were one to happen:
Cigna CEO David Cordani made the comments in response to a question about a possible Aetna tie-up at the Sanford C. Bernstein Strategic Decisions conference Thursday.
"Would there be, in any combination of that magnitude, some obvious economies of scale and leverage points? You bet," Cordani said. He said there were several similarities between the companies, including both having moved early into consumer-directed health plans.
He said he could never rule anything out.
Talk about taking America's health insurance non-system from absolutely horrible to ungodly awful!
Our big-profit health insurance non-system is so perverted that it basically is becoming single payer -- and the payer is a corporate monolith legally obligated to put the interests of shareholders above all else, including the needs of sick people. Listen to CIGNA CEO David Cordani say it best! It's all about the big bucks:
But Cordani was quick to say that Cigna can generate shareholder value by remaining independent, growing internally and through acquisitions.
"We have a meaningful amount of value creation, and I would submit to you that the traction that we are making in each of our operating businesses probably will result in multiple organizations viewing us as an attractive asset over time," he said. "And I view that level of interest in us as indicative of us being successful going forward."
Cigna has periodically been the subject of takeover speculation in recent years.
What happens after Aetna sucks up CIGNA? Then Aetna sucks up WellPoint, no?
That Aetna and CIGNA would even think it's appropriate to float this kind of merger is a sign of just how focused these bloodsuckers are on doing everything possible to suck the American people dry of their money...and health.
This kind of news means -- more than ever -- that we must, must, must keep up the fight for a robust public option or single paper at the federal level.
The only program that could compete with Aetna and CIGNA combined would be -- say it with me -- improved Medicare for all.
Say it with me...
