WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
Tinnitus can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head. It is usually described as a ringing noise, but in some patients, it takes the form of a high-pitched whining, electric buzzing, hissing, screaming, humming, tinging or whistling sound, or as ticking, clicking, roaring, "crickets" or "tree frogs" or "locusts (cicadas)", tunes, songs, beeping, or even a pure steady tone like that heard during a hearing test.[3] It has also been described as a "wooshing" sound, as of wind or waves.[4] Tinnitus can be intermittent, or it can be continuous, in which case it can be the cause of great distress. In some individuals, the intensity can be changed by shoulder, head, tongue, jaw, or eye movements.[5]
My first job even before I was graduated from High School was cleaning up at a small Planing Mill. After I graduated they hired me on full time and eventually I worked my way up to being the guy that cut and honed the blades for the moulders. There were three moulders, a huge industrial sander, a big planer and several other pieces of equipment dedicated to the art of transforming wood. All of these things were incredibly loud. From the time I started working full time there I doubled up on ear protection, those little squishy foam in the ear ones coupled with the headset sort of ear muff type. Guess it wasn't enough.
Around the same time frame and a bit earlier I also had a love for seeing live music. We're talking everyone from Slayer and VoiVod to more punk bands like 7Seconds and Dag Nasty.
I was also a hobbyist guitarist with several fairly loud rigs.
So you add all that up, and twenty odd years later I'm paying the price for it. I have a constant high pitched ringing in my ears. It never goes away. 90% of the time I can sort of ignore it, but some times it really annoys the hell out of me. Lately it seems to be getting worse and I suppose I'll eventually see what treatment options there are.
So my ringing ears are MFP, what's chapping your hide this evening?
