Greetings, Cranky Users! It's been a rather long week, eh? Let's talk about one tip for finding stuff in DK4, and then do something silly that's entirely unrelated to weiners of any description.
Here's the tip: If you go to a group that you are a member of (that is, a contributor, editor, or admin), you'll see that your view of the Diaries page defaults to the
blog view above, whose url looks like this:
http://www.dailykos.com/blog/Cranky%20Users. But you have another option, the
list view, shown here:
You'll see that the list view fits more diaries on a page, so you can page through them quicker, and gives that "hover over" view of the first lines. Also, you can sort it in order by any of the columns (just like search results) by clicking on a column heading. And the additional columns are rather interesting, showing how many times the diary has been viewed, recommended, hotlisted, and commented on. But sadly, if I go to a group I do not belong to, I don't see that list view offered:
How to get it? Doctor up a url! The one for my List view above looks like this:
http://www.dailykos.com/user/Cranky%20Users/history. If I change the part with the group name to the group I want to see,
voila! Note that you really need the
/history on the end, or you'll just get the group's profile. Also: the
%20 in
Cranky%20Users means a blank space, which you cannot have in the middle of a url. If the group name you want contains any spaces, you'll need to use
%20 in place of each one.

So! Let's boogie below the squiggle for some Friday entertainment.
Because recent events in the world have called so often for a good facepalm, I offer here my accumulated collection of appropriate pictures. Many are stolen liberated from other Kossacks, but facepalm pictures want to be free. Please enjoy them, with the beverage of your choice if possible, and retain any in your personal collection that may allow you to express yourself in other threads. And by all means, if you have others to share, feel free to post them in the comments!
Thanks for visiting, and happy Friday, my Cranky friends! As always, please use the comments to discuss things that are still troubling you about DK4, ask questions, and help others when you know the answer. And, you know, say hi.
WHERE TO TURN: LINKS
☀ For more stuff sort of like this, the Cranky Users group.
☀ For lots of official detail about the site and its workings, the DK4 FAQ (frequently-asked questions). The main Daily Kos FAQ is still here.
☀ To report something not working to the dev team, the bug report form. A bug report will not be directly responded to, but will be kept on file by the development team until the issue is resolved or otherwise closed.
☀ To get immediate response for technical help or urgent site problems, the contact form (be sure to select the tech support radio button). A tech support request will get prompt response, but does not get added to the bug report database. If you use it to report a known bug, you'll be told it's a known bug, and that's it.
☀ For immediate catharsis, complain in a Cranky Users thread. These threads are regularly scanned by kos and developers, but it's not a guaranteed way to bring an issue to the attention of these folks. But sometimes you just need some sympathy from other cranky people! (And sometimes, other cranky people have advice that can help you.)
Our thanks to kos, the development team, and the Dkosopedia contributors for their vigorous efforts to deliver a site that works well and to help us know how to work it!
