Congressman Anthony Weiner has decided to take a temporary leave of absence from the U.S. House Of Representatives. How long this leave will be, we don't know. I predict that he will be back in time for next years election and that he will most likely win his re-election bid. Over the past week or so, republicans like Eric Cantor and democrats like DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz have called for Weiner's resignation. The question that has been floated around is why hasn't David Vitter resigned? Why is he still serving in the U.S. Senate? Even Sean Hannity thought he should've resigned. I'm sure he has since changed his mind. Since Anthony Weiner has left the building for a while, I think David Vitter should do the same.

Lets remember exactly what David Vitter did. David Vitter's phone number was included in the phone records kept by Pamela Martin and Associates. Pamela Martin and Associates was owned and ran by a woman named Deborah Jeane Palfrey. Deborah was also known as "The D.C. Madam." She was convicted of running a prostitution service. David Vitter solicited sex from a prostitute multiple times. Here is Vitter's written statement he released once it was clear that he was in trouble.

This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.

So, he asked for forgiveness from his god and that's that? Apparently so because he wouldn't face any charges due to the statute of limitations. David Vitter survived a prostitution scandal and he is still a senator. Anthony Weiner tweeted pictures of his penis everybody wants him to resign? Get real America. What David Vitter did was a crime and he got away with it. There is something wrong with this. David Vitter needs to resign and the democrats and republicans need to demand this of him. Since Anthony Weiner got crucified for a lesser issue, then Vitter should step down immediately. What this says is that if you solicit sex from a prostitute, if you wait long enough, you can still serve in the U.S. Senate. If you tweet a picture of your penis, you are a creep and you need to leave. Once again, get real America.

Over the past week, we have seen disgusting examples of hypocrisy and spinelessness. Eric Cantor called for Weiner to resign, but he said nothing similar when it came to David Vitter, John Ensign, or Mark Sanford. Reince Priebus, the GOP chairman, called for Weiner's resignation. He bashed the democrats over this issue, but i'm curious to know why in the hell did Mr. Priebus NOT tell John Ensign to resign as soon as he became GOP chair? Why has he repeatedly avoided the question whether or not Vitter should resign? Reince Priebus, Eric Cantor, and the rest of the republicans are hypocrites, but that's nothing new. The GOP has hammered this issue home because they know it covers up the fact that they are in trouble. They have attacked women's rights, union rights, and voters rights all in the same year in states around the country. This also covers up the victory that Kathy Hochul obtained in NY-26, which was a direct effect of the Paul Ryan plan to destroy Medicare. It worked because Fox News wasn't going to tell the truth anyway, CNN is Fox News-light, and MSNBC is our sorry excuse for a liberal media outlet with the exception of Cenk Uygyr, Lawrence O'Donnell, Rachel Maddow, and Ed Schultz (although Cenk and Ed aren't favored as highly as Rachel or Lawrence, but this is debatable.)

So, why in the hell are the democrats pretending that this "scandal" would make it harder for them to get their message across? As if it is any easier with the GOP lying about everything. Anthony Weiner is a staunch supporter of progressive values and the democrats threw him under the bus. Republicans can engage in sex scandals or ethics violations and they will get a free ride, especially if they play the "I mad a mistake and god forgave me" card. Democrats don't have that luxury. This would mean that whenever a democrat makes a huge mistake like Weiner did, the democrats should back them up. Right? RIGHT?? This is why so many people are turned off on the democrats. They have good intentions, but no backbone. The spine of most democrats have been outsourced to foreign countries. This is a problem. The 2012 campaign is going to be a dirty one and we need to be willing to get down and dirty. We also need to be willing to back each other up. It's screwed up when you look to your party for support and nobody is there. This is something the democrats need to fix ASAP. Grow a damn spine!!! By the way, which one of you democrats are going to continue to put pressure on Clarence Thomas? I would love to know.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
