We are into the third week of discussing the personal tragedy of Representative Anthony Weiner. This is a matter between him and his wife and constituents!
How could poeople so enjoy watching and discussing a man'sersonal pain?
Maybe it is because we have lost our sense of community and concern for one another.
We should be discussing jobs and why the Republicans have not been creating them. This was promised by them in 2010.
So far, the Republicans have not introduced one jobs bill.
Majority Leader Eric Cantor refused to schedule a bill creating an infrastructure bank because it smacked too much of "stimulus." That speaks volumes.
Harry Ried says that bills crerating 500,000 jobs languish in the House. One homes that the Senate Majority leader discusses each and every one.
House Minority Leader Hoyer intruduced an industrial development banks measure that has gone nowhere. It is based on the network of industrial development banks in the Fedeeral Republic of Germany that have done so much to stimulate industry and small business.
The nation gave the Republicans the economic steering wheel last November. Republicans promised a laser focus on "jobs, jobs, jobs." They have done nothing!
The voters gave then 63 additional House seats--absolute control of the chamber where the constitution says appropriations bills must begin. The Republican veto power in the Senate was extended by six seats to 47.
There is very little Obama can do now to create jobs.
The only jobs strategy we have heard is that cutting spending will create jobs. Somehow, by cutting funds and jobs, new jobs will be created. That might make sense if businesses cannot borrow money and government is dominating the borrowing market.
But corporations are sitting on $1.9 trillion in cash. They are only spending on labor-saving equpment.
It is mid-May and the promised public sector jobs have not materialized.
