Why do we give corporations tax breaks and subsidies? Why do we bail them out when they fail or when they simply experience an economic downturn? Why are politicians giving away our social safety nets (Medicaid, SS, Medicaire) just to save dollars to give to corporations?
Answer: Because they own us! Corporations tell our elected politicians what to do (not the other way around). They determine who will run for office and who is allowed to win. They determine who gets the campaign money. They determine who we will go to war against, where, and for how long. They demand no-bid defense contracts. They even can tell (not ask) the President of the United States to bail them out when they are too big to fail. They fully control the media.
They are the corporate overlords. Some call this process capitalism. But I don't. Capitalism implies that some sort of competition is going on. I don't know who Wal-Mart is competing with. Banks don't compete. Insurance companies? Come on.
What we have had in America for the past 30 years is Corporate Communism. The powerful elites rule everything and everybody. A return to Capitalism would require splitting up every too-big-to-fail company and regulate the hell out of them to assure that they act in responsible ways - ways that benefit Americans. That's what it would take.
Of course the overloards would first have to allow this to happen . . .
