Last Tuesday, the British independent TV station Channel 4 broadcast a documentary on Sri Lanka's civil war. It is titled "Sri Lanka's Killing Fields".
WARNING: VERY gruesome scenes, viewer discretion advised.
It is going to be available on Channel 4 website for few more days to view, and after that I assume there will be bunch of YouTube postings of the same.
The purpose of this diary is to raise awareness of such carnage taking place in that corner of the world.
Next step is for UN Secretary General to formally establish an investigative commission.
This step may need UN Security Council vote. The US, UK, and France should urge China and Russia to abstain at the minimum. It is China and Russia, together with Libya, Iran, and Pakistan, that bankrolled Sri Lankan military with grants, loans, and military hardware. Therefore, UN Security Council vote is not certain unless US chooses to lead as it did in Libya and Sudan.
Arguably, there are US national security interests at stake here, though may not be at the same level as in Libya or Sudan. However, given the rising Chinese naval ambitions and Sri Lanka being India's backyard, it may not be neglectable anymore.
